Acceptance does not mean passive resignation.

It does not mean we like or agree with our circumstances. We can accept it is what it is. It happened. We can let go of resistance and denial. We then free up energy to mindfully navigate without the suffering that resistance causes. Acceptance is making space for pain - SO we can stop focusing on it. Acceptance leads to movement.

I love Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). After studying mindfulness for the last decade, I naturally take this approach with most clients. Instead of looking at our experiences as problematic; something that needs to be changed, we use mindfulness and self-compassion to accept.

This shift can free people from difficulties *trying to control* their experiences and help them become more open to actions consistent with their values.

Therapy and tacos for all,
